Our Story

How it all started...

Matt & Lisa Weaver are the co-founders of River Church and The Portal School of Creativity and Innovation. They share a life-long vision to see the goodness of God made evident in the people around them and are committed to empowering people to access heaven’s creative solutions for every area of life.

Matt and Lisa have pastored for over 30 years in Alaska, Washington, and Montana. From 2002-2023 they started and operated Crystal River Home Preparations, finally leaving that endeavor in 2023 to devote all their attention to River Church.

Lisa is a gifted teacher and the President of Tree of Life Ministries, a non-profit devoted to teaching personal development in a variety of settings, including the local jail. Lisa published a book, “Beautiful Destiny,” in 2010. Her passion is to raise up fearless followers of Christ to carry the glory of God to the ends of the earth.

Matt is a gifted communicator, musician and worship leader. He is currently working on a book series on Kingdom Economics. He holds a Masters of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary, and worked on a Masters of Biblical Studies at Seattle Pacific University.

The Weavers have lived in Bozeman, Montana, for thirty years. They have three grown daughters who are each remarkably creative. They love traveling, equipping, creating, and empowering the people around them to walk in the Divine Beauty they were created for.

Expanding the vision...

We want to see every believer step into their God given identity by using and growing in the gifts and talents bestowed upon them by God to enrich and expand the Kingdom of Light.

Where we are headed...

Every believer has giftings from God in the 5-fold ministry (apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher Eph 4:11). Perhaps not in the "office" of that position, but definitely a measure of the gifting where we can identify and grow in what our purpose is. Ephesians 4:7 states, "Now to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it." In other words, we all have different measures of these gifts. It is like a train, where we are connected to others who equip and train us to become who we are called to be. We help every believer identify their giftings which helps to identify their calling.  We all equip and build each other up into the Body of Christ....the Ekklesia.
